If you are involved with the fishing community in Point Judith RI chances are you have met or heard of Ryan. He is an extremely friendly guy who is a well known and respected boat captain. He had just ventured out and started working his own day fishing vessel named the Gator. His daughter Annika loved to go out on her daddy's boat fishing, swimming or just taking a cruise.
In the early morning hours of July 10 Ryan received a gut wrenching call that his boat, the Gator, the adjacent boat, Blue Thunder and a third boat, at the opposite end of the port, the Elizabeth Victoria, were all on fire. He rushed down as fast as possible not knowing what to expect. Upon arrival it was clear that the boat was devastated by fire. His heart and dreams were crushed but his spirit was strong. He is determined NOT to let this get him down.
Ryan is an AMAZING father! He lives and breathes for his daughter - she is #1 in his life. They are two peas in a pod, the best of buddies. The reason he works as hard as he does now is to give his daughter Annika the best life she could possibly have. Ryan was Captain of offshore fishing vessels and would be out to sea for days or a week at a time. It was taking away valuable time he could be spending with his daughter. He weighed his options and took a huge chance deciding to run his own boat. He knew in his heart that it was the best decision - he had to be there for his daughter.
Things were just looking up for Ryan. Fishing was picking up, he had found his groove and nothing was going to get in his way. With that phone call his livelyhood was threatened. That doesn't mean he's giving up. Not without a fight! He is taking the Gator and has plans to build it even better then before! It will even get a new name: "Anni's Gator"
Unfortunately Ryan is unable to work, repair his boat and be home for Annika all at the same time. He will have to make some tough choices and spend more time away from Anni.
Many people have come forward asking how they can help which is why we made the decision to start this fund for him. Every penny raised will be dedicated to getting Anni's Gator up and running strong! We are extremely grateful and appreciative of any help, big or small.
