Pope Francis will be visiting the United Sates in September, and RI Future wants to send its resident muckraker, atheist Steve Ahlquist , to cover his tour.
Rhode Island is the most Catholic state in the union, but the Pope isn't coming here, so we have to go where the story is and cover the visit from our unique point of view.
Locally, the Providence Diocese suffers from unimaginative and counter productive leadership.
Pope Francis, though not without his issues, is challenging his American followers with his bold statements on the environment and economics, the kind of bold action we need in these troubled times.
The money will be used for travel, food and accomadation as Steve covers the Pope in DC, New York and Philadelphia, searching for the story not being told by the mainstream media.
From September 23 - 27 Steve will be in three cities over five days writing at least five stories. Supporters will be rewarded with video, photos, and totally different coverage from an outsider with a keen interest in religion, social justice and economic justice.
