Gale was put on this earth to teach and inspire. Those fortunate enough to be part of her life know that she radiates elegance, kindness, and a touch of wit among all she encounters.
Her desire to travel through life shifted when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of fourteen. Suddenly her teenage plans and small rebellions were off the table and her energy had to be re-directed to take on the fight of her life. She succeed: Round One. Gale returned to the world of teen angst, but was scarred by her medical history in ways unimaginable to most of her peers. Despite this, Gale rallied through her high school years: gossiping with friends, writing, painting, travelling, and dancing through the next phase of her life. All the while she inspired those around her.
We all watched with pride as she grew into the young and courageous woman who chose Paris over post-secondary. She shared her adventures of Parisian life through her writing until her escapades were cut short by a cough. After scans in France and a hasty flight home, Gale had surgery to remove a metastatic lung tumour.
They say the third time is the charm, but not when it comes to Gale’s cancer. Gale thought the previous surgery would be her last, so off she went to university to pursue her writing. After a mere thirty days of being away to school, Gale had to return home to have yet another lung surgery – this time taking a third of her right lung.
Now twenty years old, Gale stayed home this spring to work and recuperate when the largest tumour of all appeared on scans of the middle of her chest, striving to take her breath away. Unlike the previous masses, this tumour will not be dissuaded; chemotherapy has dramatically decreased its size, but not enough for surgeons to safely operate and remove it.
Undeterred, Gale is prepared to continue her battle – this time south of the border. Seeking treatment unavailable in Canada, she is hoping to conquer her cancer once and for all, allowing her to finally pursue her goals and fulfil her aspirations.
Unfortunately, this potentially life saving treatment comes at a cost – one that no family could expect to budget for. This web page has been created to help relieve financial strain as Gale and her mother Anita continue to rally against this very persistent cancer. Funds will be used to pay directly for treatment costs, as well as accommodation and travel expenses while the two are away for Gale’s treatment.
