Imagine watching your son's little league game when the game is delayed by a thunderstorm.  Your spouse and your daughter decide to run to the van for shelter. In that split second something tragic happens.  Your spouse is carrying your 4 year old daughter and they are struck by lightning 20 feet from the vehicle, leaving your spouse in critical condition and your daughter burned.   Well that exact event happened on Sunday, June 28, 2015 to my cousin's husband and their daughter.

Jay Mott, my cousin's husband, is in critical condition at St Mary’s Hospital in Duluth after going into cardiac arrest multiple times, including needing to be resuscitated at the little league field.  Unfortunately, Jay’s peril does not end with the cardiac trauma, when he arrived at the hospital he had an extremely high internal body temperature and they still haven't been able to determine the full extent of the damage he sustained.

Ava, a precious 4 year old, was just released from the hospital on Tuesday.  She has burns on her right arm and right leg.  We are thankful that she didn’t have more injuries and that she will make a full recovery.

As of the most recent update, Jay is intubated, sedated and they have gotten his temperature back down to normal and thankfully his brain activity appears to be normal, but his battle is just beginning.

I don’t do this often, in fact I have never done this, but I am asking for help for their family.  Jay was the sole income provider for their family and even if, God willing, he recovers quickly, it will be a while before he is able to return to work, not to mention the medical bills that they will be stuck with when all is said and done. Jay and Fayth are just such great people, the type of people that make both Minnesota and the Iron Range amazing.  They are always willing to go the extra mile to help others and are extremely involved with all three of their children’s activities (PTA, Baseball, Hockey, Gymnastics ...just to name a few!). So, I ask you for whatever support you can give them…a prayer, a monetary donation to help them on with the mountain of expenses they will soon be facing. The road ahead of them will be long and arduous, if we all come together we can make a real a significant impact for them.  Thank you for your time, thank you for your big hearts!
