Welcome to the "Mercy for Mary” campaign. This campaign is about raising up prayer and financial support to help meet the daily needs of an incredible woman I have been blessed to call friend for over 36 years. I am asking for your Prayer and Financial help for Mary to give her a much needed break, a little less stress, a little less worry for what days she has left here to be with us.
Let me start by saying Mary Williams Montgomery is a fighter. She is a 5x cancer survivor (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Breast 2x, Kidney and Thyroid). Her first diagnosis when she was only 17 years old. Through it all Mary has shown such an incredible grace and is absolutely one of the strongest most resilient women God ever made. Her story is hard to tell, but I am going to try... Mary is Mother of 3 and Grandmother of 1. Her oldest child Eric (33) who lives with her suffers from a debilitating genetic disorder, Marfan Syndrome. He is now unable to work and never will be again. Her youngest, Melissa (20) is severely Autistic and has to have round the clock care. Mary's health began rapidly deteriorating over the past several years and is now devastatingly at a point where there is nothing else her Dr's can do.. Since 2013 she has undergone several heart surgeries in attempt to improve her health and quality of life to no avail. She is dying from congenital heart failure and complications caused by all of the radiation and chemotherapy treatments she has endured. Her Doctor’s have nothing else to offer and there are no other options but to enjoy the days she has left.
Mary has raised her children and provided for them as a single parent! She has worked as a hairdresser for the past 30+ years. She worked so hard and went above and beyond for her children, always providing even with the added load of 2 of her 3 children requiring so much extra care. Her ex-husband left her while she was pregnant with her 3rd child and fighting breast cancer (she was diagnosed w/cancer at 5 months pregnant..and yes.. He left her right in the middle of it all) and Never once did she say “Why me?” (fyi He does not help at all with the vast and ongoing expense of their special needs daughter. Since Melissa is over 18 he is no longer court ordered to pay child support or assist and he doesn't! please pray about this specifically) When she lost the beautiful home she worked and paid for so many years to foreclosure in 2014 never once did I hear her say "why me?" She just, as she has always done, accepted and faced head on the hand she had been dealt.
I could go on for days about the hardship she has endured…her struggles, her pain, her devastating disappointments. BUT (big but!), what I would rather tell you about is her beauty! Her Faith in God, her strength, her kindness, her humor (she is funny, all the time!) Her never-ending love for her family. Her pure pride and joy in being a Grandmother to her grandson Oakley. Her excitement that she will soon get to see her daughter Brittany become a bride and walk down the aisle. The countless times she has taken in her family members in their time of need. Even when her needs where greater… and lastly, (but not leastly) The hundreds of animals she has rescued and fostered. Mary spent years and thousands of hours on her feet doing hair to support her family. (Even when she was so sick she could hardly lift her head.) And now she can no longer do that. This is the Mary I am asking you to love and support.
This campaign is about raising money to help Mary keep her lights and water on, pay the daily caregiver assistant and buy adult diapers for her Melissa, pay for her prescriptions and help her son. And maybe, just maybe, help her daughter Brittany with some of her wedding costs and buy a toy or two for Oakley along the way. The question I'm sure some may have is "doesn't she have disabality?" well, Yes, Mary has a small disability income BUT (another big but!) as we all know disability income is never enough. That check doesn’t even pay her rent. She is in a constant need of "a little more” every month just to keep her head above water. Mary has a lot of wonderful people/friends (too many to name) who have rallied around her year after year. However, I think that the funds raised by this campaign could literally change the hard days and sleepless night of worry into something beautiful for this most deserving woman…Thank you for reading and God Bless the Giver!
