Mayflower Moving Screwed Us. Need $

Donation protected
Hello,

It hurts me to ask for help as I pride my self on being self sufficient. My wife is a stay at home mom of our 2 wonderful kids (Kaya almost 3, Toby almost 1). I lost my job in San Diego, CA and accepted a job in Austin, Texas shortly after. During the process of finding the right moving company, we choose Mayflower because they had decent reviews. Several of the nightmare reviews we found with other moving companies are now becoming a reality for us.
A. They are 7 days early on the move.
B. The under-estimated our load by 2,800 lbs (@ $0.45/Lb)
C. It was impossible to get ahold of anyone on the phone

There's not much they offered to make this right. They were willing to store it in Austin, but we would have to wait 2 weeks for a crew to move it in our new house. We don't move in until the 7th and do not have the money to pay them for our stuff because the estimate was so much higher than we had been given. Now in order to get a re-weigh, we are going to have to pay the full $2,900 and if it's less, then they would refund the difference. So much for nothing. Our landlord has been kind enough to allow us to store our stuff in the garage.

I am asking for help so that we may have the peace of mind our stuff is moved into the house and we might be able to get groceries for the next few weeks after we spend our last dime on moving in. My resources have failed in asking for friends  and family for a loan. I have a decent employer who gave me a moving allowance paid over 6 months but don't have anything when we need it...NOW. My bank is over drawn and my kiddos have enough food to last a few days. I make too much money to get government assistance, but not enough to dig out of this hole. I wish I would have gotten a uhaul with a month of free storage and done it myself. Lesson learned.

Even if you can't help, maybe you have experieced a similar crisis with a moving company and could give me a suggestion as to how to get this "made right". I feel completely taken advantage of and haven't experienced this level of poverty before. We are living 60 miles from my job at my Wife's Dad's house and thank God my job allows me a gas card, otherwise we would be toast.

Anything will help in this situation and I hope that one day I may be able to be in your shoes and pay it forward.

Sincerely,

Bailey, Kimi, Kaya and Toby
