Mr. Gene Montemurro's appreciation fund

This past Friday afternoon, June 26th, 82 year old Gene Montemurro's business Gene's Shoe Service in downtown New Kensington, Pa was robbed by 2 men, 1 whom had a gun. Mr. Montemurro was hit in the incident and had his registers and pockets robbed while at gunpoint. Mr. Montemurro has been in business in the area for 67 long years. From the days of the booming aluminum industry, and the great days of the downtown New Kensington business district, through the last half decade of crime, drugs, and poverty. In the last few years many business owners in the area have closed up shop and left because of the decrease in population and industry and the increase in crime. But not Mr. Montemurro, he remained in business repairing about 75 shoes a day. He stayed because he felt he had an obligation and duty to be there for his generations of customers hes obtained in the past 67 years. Because of this terrible incident Mr. Montemurro and his family is realizing that retirement may be the best thing to do. I never had the pleasure to meet Mr. Montemurro or use his services but from hearing about him from parents and social media following this crime I really want him to know how much he is appreciated and that the many good people that still do exist in the area care deeply about him and his piece of history in New Kensington. I am asking for people to contribute whatever it is they can for this man's retirement. To turn this terrible crime into a positive thing for him and his family, and also to show the criminals (who have not been caught) that we will not allow them to strip people of their hard earned money, that we our still a community and we still have eachothers backs. I know I set the goal a bit high, but from seeing social media and the amount of people impacted by this crime I feel like it can be raised and Mr. Montemurro can live the rest of his days worry free and possibly have a nice retirement trip, or gift for him and his family.
