Young Mom w/ 2nd Cancer before 30

***UPDATE***
July 20, 2017 I was diagnosed with leukemia. If you're not familiar with that type of cancer, it is cancer of the bone marrow and the blood.
With that being said, once I was diagnosed I had to be hospitalized for 4-6 weeks to receive the chemotherapy and to have 24 hour medical watch because my immune system is brought so low. I thought by getting a bilateral mastectomy and removing my ovaries, I wouldn't get cancer again. That was my goal, but that just was not in the cards for me. So I'm just trying to take things one day at a time, and to always tell my family that I am just a phone call away.
This cancer and treatment is so hard because I can't go home. I have to get 7 days of chemo that lasts for 24 hours each day. With this one, I will be in the hospital until my counts come back up. I had to quit my job and I'm doing all I can to keep my family together from the hospital but I'm limited to what I'm able to do. Just taking things one day at a time and closely listening to everything my doctors tell my family and I.

As a young lady my Mom passed away from cancer and even though I was just 9 years old when she passed I remember how her journey took her from ok to very ill in a matter of 3 short years.
Though that was her story, I'm prepared to write my own and get rid of my cancer and live a long life for my daughter!

2 days before my 26th birthday I got a phone call from my doctor telling me I tested positive for breast cancer and that I had an appointment first thing in the morning with my surgeon. He didn't say much else other than he was sorry for leading me to believe the lump I felt was only a cyst and how young I am and shocked that was the results.

On my 26th birthday I spent that day in the hospital getting surgery for the chemotherapy port to be placed into my chest, MRI, CT scan along with getting genetic testing done. I chose to go along with the genetic testing because of all the cancer in my family. With my mom having ovarian, great aunt who also had breast cancer and an aunt with leukemia passing away at 9, and so on. I chose to find out so I can know more and to know for my daughters sake.
On July 20, 2015 I got my results back from the genetic testing. To my suspicion and the doctors I tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation. Which makes me 70% likely to get other cancers down the road. Including breast cancer again in my life time and ovarian cancer.
So with that and sp
eaking with my oncologist and my genetic counselor it's going to be in my best interest to get a double mastectomy along with removing my ovaries and Fallopian tubes also. Which will then put my body into immediate menopause.
For me, I want to go through cancer once in my lifetime. If I have something in my body that can potentially get cancer down the road, and I can live a healthy life without it, I prefer to have that removed from my body. So in return I can be here with my family living a long happy life with them. ☺️

Prior to getting sick I took some time off of work for birthday parties and family time. With that I went completely through my savings paying for bills and the family time. However I had full intentions on working more hours and picking up shifts whenever possible to make up for the lost time. Just as I was intending to do that is when I got hit with the bombshell of cancer. It literally spinned my world upside down and I felt like I was now facing a death sentence because of my Moms story.
Once I had some time and talking with my doctors and family I soon resized I am a fighter and I am going to fight this cancer with every ounce of my being!

Through all the hard ships of my mothers cancer journey, knowing if my aunt that passed away at 9 from cancer that I unfortunately was not able to meet and my grandfather who was my rock killing himself, I'm trying to write my own story. One that ends in success!

My silly princess

I have now completely lost all of my hair.
Which was devastating to me since I am a professional hair stylist. My hair, makeup and fashion is my life. So losing something like my hair really emotionally wrecked me for a while.
