You're probably thinking, "what's a Sew Crazy?" That's not so crazy a question. Afterall, it's an unusual and clever name. But it's also one that happens to be pretty descriptive of our group.
If you visit one of our meetings, you'll see we sew -- and we're a little bit crazy about it. In fact, it can get really crazy when there's a dozen sewing machines humming along, folks sitting around tables snipping fabric into the latest project, pots and pans banging in the kitchen as lunch is readied -- you get the picture.
But what we're really crazy about is sewing for charity. Sew Crazy turns donated fabrics into a myriad of creative, colorful, useful and even comforting items for others in our extended community. We've made stuffed animals for children's groups, dog coats and cat hammocks for animal shelters, caps and aprons for cancer patients, and tiny bereavement gowns for families grieving the loss of an infant. Christmas fabrics were transformed into stockings that were stuffed with goodies for a women's shelter and a nursing home. Cotton prints became lap quilts for families emerging from homelessness.
Sew Crazy members are young, not-so-young, female, male, rookies to professional sewers. They come from all walks of life, They generously donate their time and talents to Sew Crazy, even pulling materials from their own stash to help out a project. And they've been doing it since 2010.
Sew Crazy has grown to where it's time to formalize our status as a charitable group. That's the purpose of this fund raising effort. We want to form a non-profit so that we're in a better position to accept donations, which means we can turn those around and send more out to our community.
As you can imagine, it's an expensive, time- and brain power-consuming task. Time and brain power we can supply; money not so much.
Won't you help us? We need to pay all those fees and expenses you encounter forming a 501c3. It won't change what Sew Crazy does, but it will smooth the way for further growth.
