Solar Cross has had two proposals accepted for the Parliament of the World's Religions! Can you help us get there?
Religious leaders gather from all over the world to attend, present, worship, and talk with one another at this historic event. The first was held in 1893, called by Swami Vivikenanda. It was revived in 1993, and has convened around the globe every few years since.
Board members Crystal Blanton, T. Thorn Coyle. Jonathan Korman, and Elena Rose, along with temple member Annika Mongan, have committed to traveling to the Parliament of the World's Religions in Salt Lake City, October 2015.
Board members attended the previous Parliament in Melbourne, 2009 and found it to be a tremendous experience. Thorn presented "Honoring the Seven Sacred Directions" to a group of 60 people from many religious backgrounds.
This year, Solar Cross has had two presentations accepted, both related to our current work on racial and economic justice:
"Calling the Ancestors Home: A Ritual of Truth and Healing"
and
"Healing the Wounds of Violence with Restorative Justice"
Please help us to defray travel and lodging costs! We are all paying out of pocket for this trip. Two of us are students, and two work at very low paying jobs that serve community. Any donation you can offer is one of love, and we greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we undertake this journey.
We are asking for donations below our actual costs, because we are willing to contribute our own funds toward this venture. If we raise over $1600, we will be able to cover even more of our costs!
