Arts career opportunity in Monaco

Donation protected
My name is Jack Wilkie-Jans and I am an Aboriginal contemporary artist, arts-writer and arts-worker hailing from Cape York in tropical Far North Queensland.

One of the biggest projects to ever take contemporary Indigenous Australian art overseas is almost ready, the 'Australia: Defending the Oceans at the Heart of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art' (a both publicly and privately funded/sponsored initiative) is set to be unveiled in Monaco at the end of March. The exhibition features Indigenous artists from Far North Queensland and poses a great boon for both the commercial and interest value for the region's artistic advancement.

As an emerging artist and as a writer on the arts I would love the opportunity to go over to see this exhibition, to celebrate my peoples' cultures at such a pivotal event. This opportunity will enable me to write a substantial review of the exhibition (and the extensive public programme associated with it) which will be published by an arts related publication which has a focus on contemporary Indigenous art.  I want to be able to bring back to Australian audiences and in particular the Indigenous community, a great interpretation and reflection of probably one of the best things to happen for the Queensland arts industry.

Taking place on March 24th at the Oceanographic Muesum of Monaco , I desperately need the help of art lovers and appreciators in Australia for me to be able to attend this event. It is an opportunity of a lifetime for many artists from my same region and would obviously represent the same for my own career development as a great networking opportunity as an emerging artist and writer.

The funds donated will go towards a return flight from Cairns, Queensland to Nice, France (the closest international airport to Monaco) and travel within Monaco and the East of Europe to attend additional events part of the overall celebration and associated public programme. Such as a public concert on the 26th of March in Lyons at the Musée des Confluences  with a performance by the Zugubal Dancers. Even if I don't reach my target I will still put the money generously donated towards the trip should I have raised over $800, if I fall well short of the target by the 15th of March I will return the funds donated.

Aside from using this opportunity to write an in-depth review of the event, for it to be the greatest of career development moves, I also want the people who have supported this request and who have made it possible know about each of the artists and as much about the project as possible.

Prior to leaving I intend to (A) start a blog post (the link to which will be shared via an update) which will feature information on the project, different artworks and information, artist profiles and interviews. To complement the blog site and the eventual article/review (B) I will also be providing three reports with Bumma Bippera Media 98.7FM on the project: prior to leaving to Monaco, an update whilst there and a full recap of the trip and event(s) once I arrive back home. I essentially want to enable everybody at home the chance to see the exhibition and the works in an educational and engaging way.

Thank you for your support!
