Years ago, while going through a painful divorce, my friend José was given a vial of water from Lourdes that my wife had brought back from a college trip to the famous spring. In the upheaval of the break-up, the vial was lost amidst the flotsam of the separation. On a particularly difficult night, while alone in his apartment, the forgotten gift suddenly sprang to mind, sending José into a frenzy of searching, like the woman of Jesus's parable who'd lost her coin. In short order, he found the tiny container of water--a miracle by itself, really--and in one swoop, José poured the entire contents directly into his eyes. You see, he's blind. And he wasn't even Catholic--well, not then. He had no idea what it would do, but he was prepared to Believe.
Fast forward to the present and Our Lady of Lourdes has, in José's life, worked miracle upon miracle: José was granted an annulment, and in 2011 he married a lovely Catholic girl named Kristen. They have since been blessed with 2 beautiful daughters. He was received into the Catholic Faith in 2012 , and is permanently employed in Cleveland, where they've made their home. All of this José attributes to Our Lady's Weapon, the Rosary, and, of course, the tiny vial of water from the spring at Massabielle, France.
And that's why I'm trying to get him there. I am firmly persuaded that the journey for José doesn't end here--that Our Lady has one final step for him to take in this amazing story. For years his family and so. many. people. have prayed for a miracle for his eyes--he has advanced cone-rod dystrophy--but as the only Catholic on his side of the family, he's quite alone in believing that Our Lady could work a miraculous cure at Lourdes. If she does not, then God be praised nonetheless!
Please please say a prayer for him, at the very least, and if you are so led, put a nickel in this pot Jose just needs about $1000 to complete what he needs to make the trip. Please give something to this cause--even if it's 'only' a heartfelt prayer--that God's Will be done.
