Book Power for Kids

Hello.  I’m Brenda Randel of Book Power for Kids.  I’m a retired school administrator and teacher and I know that many underprivileged kids have no access to books in their homes – no books they can claim as their own and discover a love of reading for many purposes.  “RIF (Reading is Fundamental) just released a new research report highlighting the significance of and impact of providing children access to print materials.  The results are clear—access to books improves students’ reading achievement.”   My mission is to collect gently used or new books for distribution to underprivileged kids in the Longmont/St. Vrain area.  I collect these gently used books from friends, from yard sales, thrift shops, and from other sources.  My team and I clean and sort them and donate them to various groups such as Children’s Youth and Family Services, Headstart, The Our Center, Youth Center Collection Center, Little Free Libraries, Title 1 Schools, The Women’s Shelter, and other organizations serving our kids.

Participation in this project gives you the chance to put a book(s) in the hands of an underprivileged child, inspire a love a reading for that child, and impact literacy and learning skills of our area’s youngest citizens.   All funds will be used to purchase new or used books for distribution to such kids.

Donations of gently used children's books are also accepted.  These can be left at Children's Youth and Families, 1050 Lashley St., Longmont, CO.  80501.

No religious or political subjects can be accepted.
