Knowledge is....POWER!! Knowledge is....POWER!!!! We start soft and then grow louder as we cheer that every morning in my 5th grade classroom. Knowledge is power and I don't ever want my students to forget the power that learning brings.
One way I instill knowledge in our classroom is through technology. For the past three years I have been blessed enough to be in a 1:1 classroom where students have had their own laptops. I saw student achievement double as result of free, online math programs that helped fill in the gaps and spaces that had widened over the years. Students were engaged and motivated to learn. So while I was working in small groups and rotations, students kept right on learning through these free online math programs. Differentiating and helping students grow from where they were to where they needed to be became much more doable and possible with the help of technology. My students became empowered because they could see their growth. They gained confidence and independence through technology.
I am, however, relocating and my new school does not have the 1:1 technology component. It is a Title 1, 79% free-and-reduced lunch school where student needs are great. My desire to empower the students there is so strong I am setting up this fund to raise enough money to buy classroom chromebooks for my students. I want my new students to feel just as empowered by their growth and knowledge as my students before. Please help me empower my students for years to come by contributing to this fund. You will be empowering the future generation and building hope and confidence. Together we can empower students into the 21st century and to be lifelong learners.
