Adam's Wheelchair Van
Donation protected
I'd like you all to meet my friend, Adam. He's a great guy - wonderful smile, amazing attitude and involved in community theater. Adam was born with cerebral palsy which means he uses a wheelchair and a communication device, but nothing is going to keep this guy down - at least not until yesterday when his special van with a wheelchair lift was rear-ended by a propane truck. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. Adam and his parents are all a little bruised and battered, but the van is totaled.
I'm sure most of you have experience with the way that automobile insurance companies pay claims - based on the value of the vehicle. Adam's van was a '97 conversion van - not worth very much according to how insurance companies figure these things. Adam and his parents desperately need reliable wheels - it's the only way that Adam gets to the places he needs to go.
I looked up some prices for used vans - a late model mini-van with low mileage, ready for Adam's wheelchair will probably run between $25,000 and $35,000. Now, I have no idea how much the propane truck's insurance company will settle for, but I doubt it will be anywhere near those figures.
So, I'm asking all of you to consider donating and sharing this fundraiser - maybe if we all chip in a little bit each, Adam and his parents can raise enough to get Adam the van he needs.
