Okiotak and One Ear Up Sled Dog Fund

Veteran Iditarod dog mushers Bob Chlupach and Jan Steves recently faced a devastating loss when the Sockeye Fire in Willow, Alaska ripped through their property and sled dog kennel.

With help from friends, Bob was able to get all of the dogs out safely, including an adorable litter of puppies. Jan helplessly waited for phone calls, texts and Facebook postings as she was with family in Washington. Everyone was safely evacuated and are doing well.

Mentally drained and still trying to comprehend all of this, Bob and Jan remain positive.

They have, unfortunately, lost their mushing equipment and supplies. Freezers, dog food, dog coats, snow machine to groom trails, dog sleds, foot ointment...the list goes on.

To some, sled dogs may only be dogs, but to many, sled dogs are family. They are loved as if they are our children. They give hugs and kisses and act as though they want to talk to you. Some lovingly talk back while others sit and listen (much cheaper than a counselor or psychiatrist).

They are what keep us positive today not showing the effects of the fire. These dogs continue to howl as if nothing is wrong, showing how much stronger we are.

Any help with providing funds for these awesome dogs...and adorable puppies is appreciated. Thank you for your kindness and support!
