I have set this page up on behalf of Sarah & Michael. They are currently stuck in Spain going through the worst times of their lives. They are desperately trying to stay strong for their gorgeous Mum and are handling the whole situation with dignity and grace, which makes us proud. As a family we are trying our best to keep Aunty Carol comfortable and get her home. It is has been hard to come to the decision to ask for this kind of help but lots of people have already asked if they can help in any way and we are very grateful for any donations you can make. As some of you know Mum collapsed while on a family holiday to Majorca 4 weeks ago. She was first diagnosed with pneumonia and then had a major stroke while being treated in the Spanish hospital. For the past 4 weeks the insurance company have used every delaying tactic possible, not returned our calls and gone out of their way to make this whole situation even more stressful than we thought possible. In that time, Mum has been transferred to 3 different hospitals, been put on a ventilator and suffered a further bleed on the brain. She has now been in Intensive Care in a foreign country for over a month!
As you can expect this has been heartbreaking for her family and friends. Many of you know mum is one of the kindest and loving of people. She will go out of her way to help anyone in need in the most selfless of ways. She does not deserve any of this and what we have watched her go through over the past few weeks cannot be described as anything other than torture. We would not wish this on our worst enemy.
The Spanish doctors have said the best thing for her now is to get her home to a British hospital where she can be surrounded by friends and family. The language barrier has been huge here and she needs familiarity and medical staff who can speak English. We have contacted a private air ambulance who say they can bring her home, the Spanish doctors agree this is the optimal time for her to fly yet the insurance company refuse to fly her home. Mum could be alone in a Spanish hospital for months. She deserves better. She deserves to go home, to be surrounded by her loved ones in familiar settings. Please help us get Mum home.
