Harold Bullington Fire Victim Funds

Donation protected

On Saturday August 8, 2015, at about 8:30 am.  I was driving along HWY 3 West of Keremeos. B.C, when I came upon a grass fire burning and heading towards Harold’s home.  I noticed vehicles parked along the side of the Hwy watching.  I sped by and turn into the drive way honking my horn trying to alert the other home owner as I approached Harold’s home.  I began running for his door as flames begin to surround his home.  I man came running to assist asking if anyone lived in the trailer?  I told him Harold lived in the home, he has disabilities.   I told him I would check on Harold if he could check the next home.  I ran into the Harold’s home screaming for him, and I was met by his barking dog.  I left the door open to let the dog out as I ran through his home searching for him, I could hear the crackling of the fire on the outside.  “Harold!” I yelled!  He called and I found him still in bed, “Get out Harold your house is on fire!” He was confused asking "whose house?"   “Yours” I sadly told him as I turned to run out.   I ran outside and began to scramble for a garden hose the flames were already melting the vinyl siding.  With shorts and flip flops I ran through the ashes trying to put flames out, screaming for Harold to help!   A large propane tank was situated in the back of the trailer, we tried to put flames out around it and the shed that stood 20 feet from the propane tank.  I would have stayed and kept fighting the fire, but my 6 and 7 yr. old grandsons came running and crying.  The fire was come towards my vehicle in which they sat, I had to get them to safety.  Leaving Harold with instructions to keep wetting down the flames.   I took the boys to safety and began helping an elderly relative to get the water on their property and put out flames coming towards their home.  Sadly Harold lost his home and everything in it.  His home is now a rubble of ash and burnt belongings he once owned.  Harold is a man who is a kind and gental soul.  He can be seen many times walking home, hitch hiking or sitting along a bench in front of the Drug store scratching a scratch and win.   I was so sad when his home had been lost, I thought we had saved it.

The fire may have been started by a discarded cigarette from a passing vehicle.  It’s been so dry and many fires are burning in BC.

Please do not throw your cigarettes out of your vehicles.   Harold may still have his home had someone not been carless.

Any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
