Wes, His Mom & Dogs Need Our Help

Donation protected
My nephew, Wes, is an extraordinary young man who is in dire need of help. He has overcome nearly insurmountable odds to earn his high school diploma but he may be close to losing the bright future he has worked so hard for.

Wes has at least 20 medical diagnoses over the past few years that leave him in severe chronic pain 24/7.  Most of Wes’ medical conditions stem from a rare connective tissue disorder, Marphan Syndrome that affects every part of his body. He also hass Asperger's Syndrome, is Autistic, and is now being treated for severe depression and anxiety as well.

In spite of years of severe chronic pain and fatigue, Wes has beaten the odds and will graduate from high school with a 4.0 GPA in a week.  He will turn 18 nexxt month, but by then, he and his mom (and his two small support dogs) will be homeless unless you can help.

Wes’ single mom has spent the last 17+ years caring for Wes' many medical and emotional needs at home while trying to earn a living by telecommuting, often working until 3:00 a.m. to make ends meet. As Wes’ symptoms have ramped up over the past few months, his mom re-doubled her efforts to find solutions for Wes’ disorders, knowing that she wouldn’t be able to help him as much after he turns 18. This cost her even more work time and time to find clients. As a result, they do not have the money pay rent and bills in their “affordable” San Ramon apartment that costs $1,850 per month.

If Wes and his mom are forced to relocate—which would probably mean living out of their family car—he’ll be leaving a supportive community, where he’s within walking distance of the community college he hopes to attend part time in the Fall, where his therapist comes to his house at least once a week, and where his therapeutic hot showers (for pain), heating pads, and other comforts of home help to ease some of his chronic physical and emotional pain. Wes’ bed was modified to fit his 6’2” frame. He’ll never get a good night’s sleep in the back seat of a 4-foot wide sedan, and his mom works on a desktop PC that just won’t work from a car. That would begin a downward cycle that could take years to recover from—the years that should be the best of Wes’ life.

But with just a little help from you, Wes and his mom can pay June’s rent and utility bills, and keep their home. Now that school will be out soon and warmer weather is coming, Wes’ pain and anxiety will be more manageable. His mom has a mentor who is helping re-launch her business, and she’ll be making enough money by July to pay her own bills.

This is a temporary, but extremely dire emergency, and a young man’s future hangs in the balance. Wes has stayed away from drugs and alcohol. He volunteers in the community whenever possible for the SPCA and the American Revolutionary War Association, teaching people to be involved in their communities, as well as being a Community Emergency Response Team member—all in spite of the fact that it hurts him to stand or sit for more than 15 minutes at a time. If you’ll invest anything you can in Wes’ future by helping his mom save their housing, your investment will support a positive young man who contributes to the community and works harder than most people while suffering more pain than many of you can imagine.
