DC Turnbull's National Team 2015

Since 1997 D.C. Turnbull Martial Arts has been training athletes of all ages in the martial arts in the Central Florida area. Not only has it trained them in various martial arts but it has also instilled in them the lessons of good sportsmanship, teamwork, supporting their peers, successfully dealing with conflict, disappointment, compassion, empathy and building friendships with others regardless of the differences they may have. In May of 2011, our school increased its value through the formation of the Breaking Barriers program, which only four months later received its not-for-profit status. Breaking Barriers allowed us to share the lessons we learned with the special needs population of our community. In return, everyone was taught the true meaning of exercising an indomitable spirit!  As a result, every student has progressed to become better world citizens by growing together in our school.

In 1999, D.C. Turnbull Martial Arts began participating in the Amateur Athletic Union’s Tae kwon do program. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, not-for-profit, volunteer sports organizations in the United States and is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness. The sport of Tae kwon do is one of 30 plus sports offered in the AAU program. Tae Kwon Do is open to athletes of all ages and abilities. Athletes may participate in professionally run competitions in Forms, Olympic-style Sparring and Point Sparring. The AAU expanded its Tae kwon do program in 2013 to include the Special Needs Division, and the Breaking Barriers Program immediately joined to participate. The D.C. Turnbull program has continued to participate in all activities every year. It has been an incredible fulfilling experience, as we watch our students build friendships with athletes from different parts of the United States and Puerto Rico.  We have benefitted tremendously from the opportunity to embrace and celebrate our differences and similarities.

Each year the cost of participation for our students increases, as a result we have experienced the subsequent challenges of providing every student that qualifies with the opportunity to represent Central Florida on the National level. Our hope is that every student who has worked hard receives the opportunity to complete their journey to its natural end. We are seeking assistance to ensure the attendance and participation of all of our young athletes in this national event.  Any donations from you would be greatly appreciated as we continue our training in preparation for the 2015 State Qualifier and National Championships.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. We look forward to sharing our achievements with you throughout our training as well as after the competition.
