Give Napolian a Chance

Donation protected

Chow Chows often get a bad rap, but they can be the sweetest dogs on earth. One of those sweet ones is the incredibly handsome (okay gorgeous) and friendly Napolian. Ten years ago I helped a friend find a responsible breeder who had this marvelous puppy. Napolian has been stellar example of the kind of dog a responsible breeder who cares enough to health test and make sure they do all they can to produce healthy puppies will produce. The only kind I support outside of rescue. I've been lucky enough to share Napolian's life for 10 wonderful years as Desiree has shared pictures, videos and stories of this wonderful Chow Chow.

Four weeks ago Napolian was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in his mouth. Knowing the statistics, I figured there would be nothing they could do. In fact, so did the oncologist. Then he said that if they did a CT scan on the tumor and IF it was operable, it would be a miracle. But that was the only way he could recommend the surgery. I don’t believe in miracles, but Napolian got one. The cancer has not invaded the bone and both the soft tissue surgeon and oncologist believe that with surgery and melanoma cancer vaccines (he needs 4 initial then every 6 months), dear Napolian could live at least another year and possibly even longer.

The family has already spent nearly $4000 on previous tests, biopsy and other procedures to reach this point. The surgery will cost $5,500 and the shots could be as much as $4000. With finances already depleted and credit cards maxed, they need help, they need just one more miracle.

This sweet friendly happy dog is Desiree’s heart dog...a concept all dog people understand. You don’t choose one, you can’t make a dog your heart dog—like the Skin Horse said to the Velveteen Rabbit, “It’s a thing that happens to you.” If this were a geriatric dog, a dog who was sick with little chance of getting good quality time, I’d say let him go. But this dear, other-wise healthy dog can, with your help, benefit from this chance.

With your help, the choice to save him won't saddle the family with nearly insurmountable debt, when they already have done so much. Please, whether it is $5 or $500, all donations are appreciated.

Copies of payments to the specialists/vets will be posted to assure accountability. Please find it in you heart to help give this sweet, heart dog just one more miracle.
