Dr. Subbanna's Scholarship Fund

Hello all,
We are raising money for an educational fund, to help low-income students from the Indian village of Somanahalli. This fund is in memory of the venerable and beloved Dr. S. N. Subbanna, PhD who had set up and funded a similar scholarship fund that has served many Somanahalli sankethi students living expenses in Kaushika sankethi hostel for the past 25 years.
Dr. Subbanna came from the humble village of Somanahalli, located in Karnataka- a state in southern India. He went on to accomplish many great things during his lifetime: such as being the first villager to achieve 10th rank in his undergraduate degree for the state, then becoming the first person from the Hassan district of karanataka to go abroad in pursuit of higher education. In spite of his many academic and numourous occupational accolades, Dr. Subbanna never abandoned his familial roots nor his village.
Dr. Subbanna introduced the first radio and speakers to the villagers of Somanahalli in the 1980s, allowing the residents to listen to news from around the world for the first time; He funded utensils which allowed the entire village to be served food during social occasions. Dr. Subbanna was instrumental in the founding and funding of the first hospital inSomanahalli to serve the poor and helped to bring the first high school. His social contributions and impact upon the village as a whole are practically incomprehensible.
In the memory of Dr. Subbanna's legacy, we are renewing the educational fund benefitting the students of the Somanahalli village, to assist in their pursuits of higher learning. The fund will provide financial scholarships to qualified applicants, and would supplement a portion of their living costs and educational expenses (books, rent, etc.). We also aim to allocate part of the fund to purchase more advanced learning mediums for the younger students in the village: such as laptop computers and tablets. With your generous contributions our goal is to grow the fund to make it self sustainable over time to be able to help all students from somanahalli going off to different cities in pursuit of higher education.
Though it has been several years since Dr. Subbanna’s passing, the generous contributions that he made, and the selflessness he displayed have gone on to greatly affect the lives of many from Somanahalli. All donations to the fund are greatly appreciated and will be used solely towards the education of Somanahalli youth.
