We are reaching out to all who have the desire to assist the Central Texas families whose lives have been devastated by the recent floods. Specifically, we are asking (begging?) for funds to help the amazing folks in the Wimberley area get their clothes clean. Upon seeing the devastation and hearing the stories of water rushing into homes, volunteers quickly organized an effort to help residents launder what could be salvaged. In many cases, the laundry brought by these residents is all they have left... So yes, their laundry matters!
Who is helping?
Our host site- Wash Day Laundry and about 40 volunteers a day, working 2-hour shifts. We are blessed with amazing people in and around Wimberley who are giving so selflessly of their time! Much of the laundry washed today was dug out of the mud just prior to arriving the laundromat. It's heaven sent that we have access to professional machines for the undertaking of this opportunity to help!
How does it work?
Upon delivery, the laundry bags are labeled; clothes are then washed, dried, folded and loaded into clean bags that wait in designated areas for the residents to pick up. We use Wash Day plastic cards (like a Costco card) to run the machines. (No cash or quarters) Your donations are used to fund the costs of operation with our 50% discount applied.
Where are we doing this?
We are working together with the local laundromat, Wash Day, to offer FREE laundry services to those affected by the floods! However, there is a cost to the owners of Wash Day. Although they have graciously discounted laundry services by 50%, we NEED FUNDS TO COVER THE REMAINING 50%. We will be able to use these funds to continue the service and reunite residents with a sense of familiarity that feels like home. Today alone, we washed nearly 1,000 lbs and we're not even halfway through today's new arrivals. Can you help?
