My name is Emil Harmsen, game developer and instructor for the game design course at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I have been active in the game development industry for over 10 years and have had an uphill battle in the Milwaukee area trying to get funding for game development.
I created a game development studio called Forever Interactive in an attempt to build the Milwaukee area into a hotspot for game development, as well as to ensure that individuals graduating from higher education with game development degrees would have a way to both gain industry experience and obtain gainful employment, where there may not be the opportunity to do so. Through working for this company graduates have been offered jobs in AAA companies including, but not limited to, Turbine, Zenimax, 2k, Bioware, Nintendo, Microsoft Game studios, Ubisoft, WB Games, Disney, Activision, EA and Blizzard.
After creating Forever Interactive I began seeking out funding of various kinds, however, due to the stigma of the game industry funding has been scarce to say the least. As a result the team and I have been building our debut title, Visions of Zosimos, over the last 5 years essentially on our own time with the only funding coming directly out of my personal bank account.
The journey has been long and arduous, but there is now a light at the end of the tunnel with the official launch of the game slated for August of 2015. With the launch of Visions of Zosimos I will be able to expand my team exponentially and offer more jobs to graduating students. However, we need the help of you, the community, to get past this last hurdle and to the finish line. Any assistance will help us greatly in this journey to our launch this coming summer.
What is Visions of Zosimos?
Visions of Zosimos is an online collectible card game that seamlessly integrates deep
tactical turn-based combat in a hex based layout, while harnessing the social aspects of the massively multiplayer online (MMO) genre.
Visions of Zosimos is a PC game for windows based machines, built on the Hero Engine that will utilize adedicated player client. A single game session will occur in a 3D board environment and allow each player to engage in direct combat with his or her avatar on the board, as well as play various cards from his or her deck enacting a multitude of effects on gameplay. A player achieves victory by defeating all opposing players' avatar(s), and additional game modes are in development which are based on other achievements.
Visions of Zosimos is a historical fiction game and draws inspiration from Alchemy and Mysticism, bringing the ancient precursor to chemistry and ancient texts from our world together in a synergy of the mystical and mundane. A player will learn to transmute the elements and spiritual forces to fight battles in the Afterlife where the digital terrain becomes more and more alive with the placement of every card.

Forever Interactive is a Wisconsin based independent video game developer, currently working on our debut title. We run a virtual, cloud-based studio which enables our 40+ person development team to stay ahead of industry trends and work remotely from various locations throughout the United States. This cloud-based infrastructure allows our team to seamlessly use our virtual presence in all marketing strategies to reach an optimal consumer demographic. In addition, we make use of agile software development methodologies that enable efficient and streamlined operations, an increased level of productivity, and the flexibility to utilize the latest in development tools as they become available.
