Hi, my name is Alfred Dufour and I'm a fairly average guy but my mother now there's an extrodinary woman.
This is her story.

My mother, Vickie has dedicated her life to caring for others. While raising four kids she went back to school and began her professional career of caregiving that spanned over 22 years. During that time she cared and advocated for people with developmental disabilities with the same level of devotion as she did her own children. Now she needs help and caring for in this stage of her life.

Shortly after losing both of her jobs in June of 2014, at the age of 55, she was diagnosed with stage 4 non small cell adeno carcinoma uncommon. They found a brain tumor that was successfully removed and treated with radiation but the cancer had already spread to many of her vital systems. Also the brain surgery had left her with an infection that lead to more surgeries that ended with a hole several inches in diameter being removed from her skull plate.
At this point she is in home hospice in the house she had moved into 21years ago. During that time she and her husband Cliff have turned this small fixer upper into their dream home. They have done all the work themselves over the years and it is still a work in progress. Together they have turned a house truly into a home. This was to be their investment for retirement when they would take off to travel the country together. Now their are at risk of losing everything.
Now all her final wish is to pass away in her home, but despite all the help from the family the bills are piling up and they are on the verge of having to sell or risk losing their home. At a time when she should be resting and making the most of each day she has left she is scrambling to try to prepare the place for sale. When Cliff should be concentrating on her care, he is faced with having to repair damage from the basement flood from last winter and finishing the remodeling of the house.
It pains me to see the worry and frustration in her eyes. She has so much on her plate as it is. This is the last thing she should have to deal with. It’s hard to ask for help as she raised me to forge on no matter what hand your dealt but I’ve done all I can and I can’t stand by and watch her lose her home especially when her last wish is to live there in peace until her end and as it stands now the worry of losing her home is hardly living in peace. This would allow her to catch up on the bills and cover with some of the living expenses for the last months of her life. She has dedicated so much of her life to the care of others. Please help us care for her. Thank you.
