Vestris Sailors Monument
Donation protected
Beneath this plot of green grass lie seven crewmen from the Lamport and Holt Line passenger liner Vestris:
Butcher Harry Hawkins, Age 50
Trimmer Andrew Seales, Age 32
Steward Frank Rigg, Age 36
Steward Bridgeman Harley, Age 23
Steward John Owen, Age 34
Fifth Engineer John Jones
Bartender Thomas Jones
The men lost their lives when their ship sank on November 12, 1928, 200 miles off the Virginia Capes. Their bodies were recovered by the US Coast Guard and they were laid to rest in Hoboken Cemetery. Only three of them had family present at the funeral. They have rested in anonymity for more than eight decades.
Help memorialize them properly with a beautiful headstone that honors their sacrifice.
