My fight began on March 28th 2014. I was diagnosed with breast Cancer. This has completely changed my life, my goals, my priorities and my dreams.
After two surgeries to remove the Cancer and several months of chemotherapy, we decided to remove the second breast, in prevention for reocurrance and to start working on reconstruction of the two breasts. Reconstruction is just the beginning of this hard journey and the fight is far from being over, with follow-up tests and medication to take every day for the rest of my life. I am blessed that the breast cancer was diagnosed on an early stage and I cannot thank enough to all my Family and friends surrounding me with great support! Yes, I am still scared because the fight is not over and there is still chances or reocurrance.
I would had never imagined that, me Andrea Torres, a 30 years old , athlete, healthy and with a good lifestyle would have to go through this. In July 2014 in process of finishing my last chemo my Mom was also diagnosed with the same Cancer and then we had to face a DOUBLE FIGHT. I could never explain the feelings and the frustrations I had when I found out that my Mom, the one person I love the most would have to go through this as well. I confess, this has been a long fight, very difficult and exhausting at every level, physically, emotionally and economically. The key to success has been the support of amazing people, positivism and the most important FAITH IN GOD.
Today a year later I stand here with a lot of bills to pay and more to come for the prevention treatments, tests and protocols to follow for the rest of my life. I do have the strong need and desire to help other fighters win their battle!!! I always believed that one of my life's purpose or objectives was to make people smile!
I always had that dream and today more than ever, that need is there but never knew how and where to start.
I live in El Salvador( a third world country) where there is not a lot of resources, help , support and advanced medicine to treat Cancer. one of my goals is to open an organization to help other people get diagnosed and treated properly without resource to fight for their life.
I do estimate the need of $20,000 to fund my illness. Any additional money collected will be donated to start the foundation to help people with Cancer and CREATE SMILES. I really hope to be able to inspire and transmit others the strength and the guide to fight for their life!!
