Avoiding Imminent Homelessness

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Derrick and I am in a very troubling situation that has sadly forced me to turn to strangers for help. There is a lot of information to cover, but I will sum it up as much as I possibly can so everyone can get a better idea of things.

I had a job a while back, though at the time I was staying with my sister. She decided to move to another state and forced me to go to a small town in the middle of nowhere with no work. Now, I am forced to stay with my unsympathetic mother. The job I had was a work at home job, and I intended to save enough money to get me out of here. However, because of someone else at the main office, the job opportunity was lost. Basically, he wanted to make himself look good to the owners and made a case to fire all the home workers to save money. So the owner did, which left me not only in debt to the IRS that tax year, but unable to fund myself out of this town.

The town itself is very small, enough so that there is no industry or really any full time work at all. The people here have that small town mindset that if they do not know you, they will not hire you. The nearest city that has obtainable work is 93 miles away, and those jobs would mainly be fast food. The closest city with real work is at least 120 miles away. In either case, both options are outside of my affordability range.

As I mentioned, I am currently staying with a mother whom is trying her best to kick me out and may do so at any given time. She simply wants me out as she is bringing her ex back to live with her. I have no where else to go as other family members have all declined to help me, so I would be homeless on the street with declining health and a sizable IRS tax debt.

The IRS bill came simply because my previous job was a 1099. I owed them money and when I lost my job, I had to use the remainder of my money for food and to pay my rent to my mother. Now without a job or money, she wants me out and is threatening to call the police on me to say I am trespassing and so I may be removed.

I of course still had to file for taxes, and I do have a bill, but being stuck here in a town with no work and no means of funding to get into a city with work as well as the possibility of being homeless, there is no way I can pay the Federal or State tax that I owe. I am in poor health due to liver disease and an injured back. I do need some insurance as well and I do not wish to become homeless as it could be my death. I do not want to risk possible jail time for being unable to pay my taxes in the future, either.

Getting a time extension from the IRS is one thing, but they do apply late charges and fees and that could greatly increase my debt. The state is different and they want their money right away, be it much cheaper, they do act faster then federal tax. Both State and Federal tax offices will not care about how the people of this town are and how little work there is. So long it is a city and people offer work, they do not care.

This town is losing even more work in the meantime. Pioneer, which was a huge employer in this town, just eliminated all their workforce and simply left, making the job market even tighter. There are rumors that the other big work company in the area is about to lay off the majority of their workers as well. It is best to simply leave this place and find work elsewhere, but as I've said, I do not have the means for this.

What I am asking here mainly is for funding to pay off the IRS and State tax to get them off my back, then funding to get me out of this town so I may travel and live in a city with work so I do not have to face being thrown into the streets by my mother.

I hate to ask for money, however given the circumstances, I am now forced to do so. I have no choice but to rely on the kindness of strangers.

Now I will tell you my plans to get out of here and exactly how much I need:

I do not want any more than what I need, but I may ask for extra just in case the IRS does want to tax me on these donations and I do not want to take that kind of a risk. I will give updates on progress on my end and will end the fundraiser once I have the amount I need. I do want to get a job and finally be on my own away from the abusiveness of my family. In short, I need only enough money to get back on my feet and survive on my own.

Ideally, what I would desire is to pay off this tax debt and get an older model RV. I found that late 80's large Fleetwood RVs are cheaper and much nicer then newer models and they are kept in very good condition. I would want one of this mainly because I could at least have a home and shelter with the ability to travel and maintenance would not be that bad, nor would some lot fees. This way I have a home and could travel and I do not have to worry in the future.

I only mention this as a friend told me that getting an RV would be over all cheaper in the long run, but I am wanting to cross off this suggestion by showing the numbers below. The actual cost for one of these older RVs is roughly $5,000-$10,000 to own a good used one and right now, I only want an older model vehicle that could take me to another city and I can use to drive too and from work and that would be much cheaper.

What I am planning to do is first and foremost, in phase one, take care of my taxes and get that out of the way right away. Second phase would be to secure a vehicle, probably an older truck that could travel. This way I have a truck bed to help with moving and it would not cost a lot of money, or for insurance for that matter. I would like to be able to buy a vehicle for one lump sum rather than continually make payments.

The third phase is to find work online anywhere in the country willing to take me in. I cannot do this until I have a means to get out of here and travel to the location of the job; so traveling expenses. I would try to get a job within this state to avoid long travel and have less traveling expenses, but I do need work anywhere that I may find it.

The other half of this phase is to have a place to stay. With a job secure, I would need some living expenses money, possibly enough for a deposit and first months rent or at least enough for a motel room until a new job allows me to save up enough to find an apartment, rent, or finding someone seeking a roommate.

The final and forth phase of this plan would only come active if this fundraiser is to be taxed. I will let everyone know in an update. I am asking in advance however now to try and avoid rising penalty fees which could increase the amount. By asking in advance I simply want to be prepared and avoid the blow of these fees.

Below I have listed what I am asking for as well as descriptions on what I am planning on using donations for. I do this so everyone understands what I am shooting for realistically and know exactly what I intend to do with donations. I am not trying to scam anyone into buying me a hot rod or getting me to Las Vegas to gamble, which is why I am telling everyone reading this what I intend to do.

Right now, I need $4,000 for my taxes (both the state and IRS will add fees later since exact number is $3,588 for both, but late and penalty fees, I do not know yet).

I am going as high as $3,500 for a vehicle, preferably an older mid to late 80s truck that can still travel well, but that is my max level for a vehicle. I do not want to go higher then that. The minimum would be $2,500 depending what I can find. I ask for this specific year range since it is not too old to be broken down, and not too new to be expensive.

Then roughly $1,000-$1,500 for living expenses such as gas, food, motel rent, and insurance for a vehicle. I am kinda sketchy on this price because it does depend on how things work out in the future, and I cannot predict the future.

So at max figures here, they add up to $9,000. I am going to ask for $14,000 because I have no clue how much I could get taxed for this fundraiser, and if I manage to get out of here and get the job like I want, then the additional $5,000 could help out with taxes and I could pay the remainder from a paycheck in the future.

I have structured this in phases, and I am asking for a max of $14,000 for the reasons I have explained above. I do not plan on using any money until a given phase is completed. If the first phase is completed, then I will use what is gained to pay taxes. If second phase goal is reached, then I will find a vehicle in that budget, and so on.

I really need this help, and I will post updates even photos if things go well. I just cannot be in this town isolated in the middle of no where with a crippling economy. I do have health issues I do need to address and if I am thrown out into the street in a town isolated from the world, it would not be a good thing for my health and it would make things much more difficult to gain any job since I would be homeless.

I really need to pay off my tax debt and find another job, but I really need the help to get me there. I am twenty-seven and I do not want my life to crash before I can start it because my family is too selfish and self-serving. I am trying hard to get out of here, but I really need help in order to do so and I have set goals and need help to get me there.

Thank you all for reading my plea and I do hope to receive some kindness! I know there are still good people out there in the world and I would be eternally grateful for any and all help there is.

Since gofundme asks what the money is for, here is a summary:

$4,000- Federal and State tax bill
$2,500-$3,500- Vehicle to travel to job
$1,000-$1,500 - Living expenses (food, insurance, gas, rent until job kicks in)
$5,000- For taxes that may be charged for this fundraiser
