Thank you for all your support in helping us achieve our goal.  We have stopped accepting donations.

"I woke up this morning a changed man. Last night I was a crashed out cyclist, convalescing from a major accident. I was in pain and anxious about what the near future has in store for me. Yet, I was hopeful, as my friends Aaron and Michele had started this fund which could offer a bit of peace of mind to me and my family.

Your response has been overwhelming and I am a bit stunned by the outpouring of support from the cycling community. Overnight, you have surpassed what I thought was possible and allowed me to breath my first sigh of relief in 9 days.

I am truly grateful to everyone who has given to this fund, this means more to me and will last longer in my mind, than anything I have done at Tour of California. I am humbled that so many people care so much.

This morning, the pain has not subsided but my anxiety over what that pain will do to my family has passed. I will focus on receiving the best care and returning to health as completely as possible."

None of us wants to be in a situation where we have to ask for assistance; unfortunately, there are times when it is necessary. This is one of those times and I hope that we can respond with greatly needed help for one of our ambassadors of the sport of cycling.

Either live or on television, many of us enjoyed watching this year’s Tour of California. What many do not known is local northern California pro cyclist, Ben Jacques-Maynes, was in his final Tour of California as the Captain of his Team and only cyclist to participate in all 10 races before retiring at the end of this year. Unfortunately, he was involved in a major crash on Stage 2 and not able to finish. He suffered severe injuries to his face and shoulder. After being released from the hospital, Ben is now at home and working on his recovery. He is in need of significant dental reconstruction, which is not covered under his insurance. In addition, he is also experiencing significant medical bills, putting a financial hardship on Ben and his family.

Many cyclists dream of the glamorous life of a domestic pro. I have enjoyed watching pro-cycling for many years and often forget that our favorite domestic cyclists don’t live the affluent life of other pro-athletes. Professional and amateur cyclists alike are very exposed in a high risk sport where accidents, such as Ben’s, can have a profound impact on their finances and lives. It is times like these when the cycling community can come together to help!

In an effort to help Ben pay for some of the extensive costs he has and will incur as a result of this accident, I have set up a go-fund-me site. I am hoping that local cyclists throughout Northern California and elsewhere will come together to help one of our home town hero’s. I hope you will find it in your hearts to join me in giving what you can and share this story to those you think would be interested in helping. 100% of all funds received will go directly to Ben and his family.

In closing, please let me ask for your donation and thank you for your concern and for your support.
