Help UMass PEACH Help Haiti

Donation protected
Support UMass HASA (Haitian American Student Association) and their community service initiative, PEACH (Progressive Efforts for the Advancement & Change in Haiti) as we hope to create positive change in Haiti through our service trip in May 2015.

Some of the ways PEACH has worked to create change includes drives we've held last year and will continue ot have this year to collect instruments, clothes, hygienic products, and school supplies. We have also coordinated fundraising initiatives that successfully culminated in a service trip to Haiti in May 2013. This was a major feat for the organization, because despite PEACH's inception in 2009, last year marked the first year that students were able to travel to Haiti and implement their mission. There, five students, along with two chaperones, distributed the items they had utilized the semester collecting and spent a significant portion of their time forming a relationship with two universities. During their visit, they realized that both schools had little to no access to an adequate library, computers, transportation, and reliable staff, just to name a few. These students also met and spoke with elected officials, such as the Senate President and Senator Maxime Roumer of Grand Anse, where they discussed their plans to tackle the issue of education and build a long-lasting relationship with the universities to assist in their development.

Haiti is faced with a number of issues ranging from poverty to education, all contributing to the country's reputation as the poorest nation on the Western hemisphere. Our only hope in reversing the ever present cycle of poverty is to provide these students with the resources and tools they need to be sustainable on their own. "Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime." This well known proverb essentially describes our sentiments in regards to how we plan to bring change to Haiti. We are fortunate enough to have an abundant amount of resources of available to us that we hope to share with the university students upon our arrival. There, we will facilitate a workshop and presentation on professional writing and health topics. Being that the service trip is solely funded by any donations that we receive, we would greatly appreciate any contributions that you can make towards our project.

We have spent a great deal fundraising and we are close to our goal, however we still need to raise about $3500 to meet our goal. We are appreciative of anything you can contribute toward our trip. The amount does not matter, every cent represents the closer we are to achieving our goal. Thank you for your time and we look forward to receiving anything you can give.

In addition, we are also collecting any in kind donations in the form of school supplies. These include, but not limited to; computers, printers, tablets, notebooks, pens/pencils, textbooks, workbooks, calculators, and hygienic products. If you would like to make a donation, please email us at: [email redacted].
