The Ukuthemba Project

Donation protected

In South Africa, a rape is reported every 7 minutes. Considering that only one in nine, if not fewer victims, will report a violation, the figure could stand way above 500, 000 cases every year. This has to stop.

The Ukuthemba Project is a campaign to end the mentality towards rape across the world. Starting in South Africa, the rape capital of the world, we are founded on the faith that through education and awareness, we can support the development of a harmonious generation that holds strong values for the love of others.

We have partnered with the Jes Foord Foundation and Jemotech Studios to start a campaign that we hope will leverage the media attention to educate young boys in particular and change the culture of violence globally.

Empowering community leaders to mentor young people, we have created an educational competition campaign that is taking root in the Hammersdale community of Kwazulu-Natal on  Thursday 16th July.

Over one day, the programme covers the topics of Gender Roles, Relationships, Sex and Rape with a group of 30 boys and girls aged 14-17. With the help of a talented group of local musicians, they will compose songs on these issues, with messages that will be shared across social media platforms and throughout the community with performances throughout the week. The most popular performances will compete on Saturday 25th July and the winner will record their song for the campaign's album with the talented artists at Jemotech Studios, Durban.

With enough funds and support, this can be scaled into multiple communities to reach as many young people as possible. The first large event will be hosted in Durban this Christmas with performances from the winners of each District in KZN. The next challenge is to reach into all communities across South Africa for a national competition in December 2016, and an annual global competition within the next ten years.

Help us spread the message for this campaign with the wonderful voices of South Africa by donating generously.

For every donation of £5 and over, we will send you a copy of the album as soon as it's finished!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

On behalf of the world.
