Police K9 injured on duty

K-9 "Robin" is a three year old female Belgian Malinois and has been a Police service dog for the City of Monterey Park for four months. On Saturday, May 09 K-9 handler Agt. Palomino and "Robin" were dispatched to assist patrol officers in locating two outstanding suspects who had just committed a residential burglary.  The K-9 team was tasked with searching an area of rigorous terrain with steep hills and very thick brush.  "Robin" was successful in locating and apprehending one of the burglary suspects and he was taken into custody.  

"Robin" and Agt. Palomino continued with the search for the second suspect.  While searching, both were attacked by a swarm of bees and "Robin" was stung over 100 times and was rushed to the local Veterinarian Emergency Room (Agt. Palomino made a full recovery).  As a result of being stung, "Robin" went into anaphylactic shock and underwent an emergency blood transfusion.  After several tests, the results showed that "Robin's" liver and lungs have suffered severe damage.  She is extremely lethargic, unable to walk, her urine is black, she is not eating and her breathing is very rapid. "Robin's" condition remains critical...

"Robin" is still in need of several costly medical procedures to include additional blood transfusions.   "Robin" remains hospitalized and is under the watchful care of medical staff at the Inland Valley Emergency Pet Clinic.  

The Monterey Park Police Officer's Association is seeking financial assistance to help "Robin" and Agt Palomino recover from this incident.  ANY AND ALL DONATIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.  All funds raised will go directly to the Monterey Park Police Officer's Association and be used to help "Robin" in her recovery. In the event that K-9 Robin should not recover, monies will be donated to an organization of the MPPOA's choice.
