From Homeless to College

Donation protected
Cameron is a young man with a goal-He has wanted to attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY his whole life.  It has been his dream.  The summer going into his senior year, he became homeless and in a situation where he didn't know whether to keep going or quit.  He found a room he could rent all bills paid not too far from the high school he attends so he could still walk or ride his bike.  He slept on the floor, doesn't have a place to put his clothes, and his bike has been stolen, but he still smile every day and is excited about the next chapter in his life.
As his chef instructor, I have helped him into jobs where he could continue to grow as a culinary student but still earn money to support himself.  In the fall he was accepted to the CIA-his dream came true. He cried.  He laughed.  He was an emotional wreck.  He did it on his own-his hard work paid off-he could see a future out of the hood and homeless.
Unfortunately, his family hasn't supported him in his dreams and goals.  I do not have children of my own, so I have unofficially adopted him.  I have helped him in so many ways from buying him groceries to staying home and spending Christmas with him instead of my own family.  I have purchased many of his 'senior moments' since I knew he didn't have the money to do it-but I didn't want him to miss out or not walk at graduation or not go to prom.  When his family killed his dream of going to the CIA I stucked my neck out and told him I would take him to college!  We would drive all the way from Texas to New York if we had to and sleep in the car!
Cameron has done everything on his own.  He has finished his applications.  He has applied for every scholarship he could find.  He has worked two jobs, paid his own bills and rent, gone to school full time, passed all his classes, been involved as president to his culinary program in every competition or event I have thrown his way.... This young man is amazing.  He amazes me and inspires me every. single.  day.
The time has come.  We are planning our trip to New York next month.  He decided to take the early semester to save money and start his dream.  I want to have the privilage to help him with his bedding and other items he needs for his dorm room AND take him into New York City while we are there to get him familiar with the subway system.  I also want to take him to see a few sights while we are there as a graduation gift.  I have a special person that has helped Cameron anonymously at Christmas or here and there.  Her and her husband have graciously donated us stand-by tickets for this trip.  Cameron only has clothes and not other belongings, so this worked out great! It also saved us from a 24 hour drive. It will be his first time to ever fly! Now I need to rent a vehicle so I can get him back and forth to orientation and such.  I also need to rent a hotel room while I am there helping him.  As a public school teacher and already helping him out so much, I have ran out of money to do everything I want to do for him! I don't want him to give up or think that I wasn't able to finish what I started.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him.   I am honored to get to see this success story and be a part of it.
I hope you are all touched by the graces of this young man.  If you have anything to spare to see him go to the next level of success and go from homeless to college-please donate!
Thank you all for sharing his story and helping us even if it is by lifting us in prayer for this journey.
