Adam's brain tumour fund

After leaving Canada for a year out in Australia. I secured a job back in Victoria, on Vancouver island, BC, Canada. It was the end of my second week in the new job when I decided to meet up with a mate of mine who gave me a superb reference for the job I just landed over Skype; a few drinks were consumed on a Friday afternoon. We were having a good social catchup so a few drinks were consumed. Being new back to the country my only form of transport was my longboard. After 5 or so beers in the pub on Friday afternoon I made my way home.

Last thing I remember was catching a pebble under my wheel and proceeded to topple over forwarded landing behind a stationary green Subaru legacy hitting my head on the pavement and broke my collar bone (oh shit this isn’t good is what I thought at the time). Next thing I knew, I woke up in ICU on Sunday afternoon after being in a coma for 2 days.

They did some emergency surgery to reduce the swelling on my brain against my skull. They removed a disc of bone from my skull just smaller than a DVD.

But after that failed to reduce the swelling far enough. I was put in for an MRI scan to further deduce the problem. The results that came back weren’t good. They had originally planned to reinsert that disk shape of my skull on Tuesday but the returned MRI result indicated that I had a brain tumour the size of an orange in my head below my lobe. Brain cancer. SO prior to reattaching the disk to my skull, I went into a 4 hour surgery to remove the tumour and seal up my head. They removed up to 90% of it but unfortunately, it had grown into a section of my brain that would result in loss of motor action and vision if it were cut out, so unfortunately, I’m still scheduled to receive either chemotherapy or radiotherapy to remove the rest of the tumour.

In 3 hours I would have been in hospital for over a week. I have had such amazing support from all my good friends all over the world that I thought I had to share this. If it wasn’t for a freak skateboarding accident I could have continued to have this tumour in my head and according to the doctor be dead within a year, he reckons it could have been in my head for over a year already, the original prognosis was rather bleak when they called my dad and said I would probably be unable to talk or walk within 3 months of the accident. I’m writing this now so I don’t believe that to be the case.

Have you seen John Connor! Come with me if you want to live! Lotsa metal staples on my head! dunno if i like more like terminator or prediator.

My dad flew out to see me from England and has just left today and I am due to be released from hospital tomorrow. Big shout outs to Doctor Warren my neurosurgeon for saving my life and all the nursing staff at the victoria general hospital here in BC. Who would have thought a skate boarding accident could have saved my life. SHout outs to my friends Timm Jordison and Kathleen Fawley. who created a facebook group in my support and who contacted my family and friends after the accident. currently over 145Positive Vibes for Swales  memebers sending out positive vibes for my recovery! I am really overwelemed by the love and support i have received from such a special group of friends. MY friend jody is the one i met for drinks on friday who without i would still have most of that tumour in my head.

Positive vibes for Swales

I havent been in my job long enough to cover for extended disability leave so just looking for enough for rent and then then rest can go to cancer research. Also some towards my medical bills would be cool too.

Please help me reach the target, i have been given a seond chance at life and i want to help others out. I expect no more than 1200 taken out for rent and 900 for my own medical expenses.

I think this is like one of the few exceptions where one could say lucky i wasnt wearing a helmet :)
