Tybee's Rare Infection

Donación protegida
This is Tybee, our 2 year old ragdoll kitten.

Tybee is currently fighting for his life, and needs your help.

He is battling Sepsis, a rare complication from an infection which has caused acute kidney failure, abdominal bleeding, and dangerous low blood-sugar levels.

Sepsis requires intensive treatment for survival, and in most cats and humans, can be deadly within 12 hours. It's been 36 hours, and Tybee is miraculously alive, but still in critical condition.

If you've had a companion pet, you are familiar with the bond that forms between each others' lives. That has definitely been the case in the year since we've adopted Tybee. Greetings at the door, headbutts first thing in the morning, and late night sofa cuddles keep strengthening our bond with him.

This sudden turn of events began on Sunday, April 5th when we noticed unusual vomitting, and diarrhea. By Monday, we found him nearly unconcious and rushed him to the pet hospital. There, after performing numerous tests, they were unable to diagnose the exact cause of his illness. By Tuesday morning, his condition worsened, and doctors still did not fully understand why.  We were losing time.

Due to Tybee's quickly deteriorating condition, the doctors urged us to seek an internal medicine specialist. On Wednesday, we rushed him to the specialists for even more testing, and continuation of critical care. Even there, the doctors were stumped at the cause, and could only treat his symptoms.

By this point, we were already $6,000 in medical expenses, and no light at the end of the tunnel. The doctor provided an estimate for intensive care over the next 24 hours. We were devastated by the cost of care, coming close to $10,000 in total, forcing us to make the most difficult decision as caretakers. We didn't want to lose our little feline companion, but don't have the finances to save him.

The doctors wanted to see Tybee have a second chance  that they granted us $500 from their Angel Fund to give Tybee another 12 hours to see if he would improve.

Today for the first time since this ordeal began, Tybee showed the smallest signs of improvement. The doctors are cautiously optimistic, but he still requires intensive care to reach the point of recovery.

We are now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but are asking for your help. Tybee has made it this far, and we're hopeful he can pull through....only with your help.
