TVs For Transplant Kids

Hi I'm Ryan. Until January 2014 I was a typical 17 year old. I was in the last year of high school and ready to make my mark in the world toward college. Then things changed. I got sick with what we thought was the flu. But when the whites of my eyes turned yellow and two days later I had a full body jaundice we knew there was something else going on. After 9 days at our local hospital and then testing at The Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto it was thought that I had a genetic disease. I started feeling better but within a month we knew that things were not right. I was admitted to The Hospital for Sick Kids on the 1st of May . After many tests I was diagnosed with Vanishing Bile Duct Syndrome. A rare condition of the liver which also caused my kidneys to be damaged and I had to start dialysis. Finally after many tests I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I spent weeks on the oncology(cancer) ward having 5 cycles of chemotherapy and then moved to the transplant floor in August to await a liver transplant. I still have a long journey ahead of me as the chemo did not get rid of the cancer.

I was curious to know why on the transplant floor they had the old small ancient tube TV's and not Flat screen TV's like on the cancer floor. So my sister and I asked if we could help in some way to provide TV's for the transplant kids as they can spend many months in hospital and would like flat screens like upstairs. As I have been here for so long I know the importance of having an outlet to fill the time. Some of us aren't even allowed out of our rooms for weeks. From cartoons to movies depending on what age an up to date entertainment system can make all the difference in passing the time.

We are hoping to raise $15,300.00. Enough funds to provide 34 packages, consisting of a 32" flat screen TV, Wall mount and Blu ray players to each room. Each package will cost $450. You may want to pledge a total package or just donate what you can to help us reach our total goal so we can provide the children with some home comforts.

Any donation is a stepping stone towards our goal of making the kids time in Sick Kids a little more bearable.
