Maya is the sweetest 7 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel you could ever imagine. Gentle, loyal and loving. She accompanies me every morning on a run. She sees me get my running shoes and turns herself inside out with joy when I clip on her leash and we head out the door.
On Saturday 2nd May, 2015 at 8:30am we were just finishing off our run when Maya and I were rushed by an enormous Rottweiler. It was unleashed and the owner was behind it.
Despite the fact that I stopped, remained still, averted my eyes and Maya went down on her belly in a submissive pose the Rottweiler savagely attacked and mauled Maya, grabbing her by the soft underbelly and shaking her like a rag doll. There was nothing I could do. The owner couldn't get his dog to release her either.
Incredibly, the Rottweiler did finally release her and miraculously Maya was still alive. The owner of the Rottweiler left, leaving no details.
Maya sustained internal injuries, a dislocated hip and a broken leg as well as many puncture wounds. She has had surgery to repair her internal injuries, hips repaired many x-rays, drugs for the pain and is about to have her leg operated on to repair the difficult break.
Our vet bills should be paid for by the negligent owner of the Rotteiler but efforts to locate him have been in vain. The bills are enormous but the love I have for my beautiful girl is endless and I'll eat peanut butter sandwiches till the end of time to make sure she gets through this and lives out the rest of her years as comfortably as she deserves!
Maya is currently at Lort Smith Animal Hospital who have been nothing but amazing during this time. Despite the fact that they have reduced fees for those with low income the cost of treatment has still been exorbitant.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
