Tosa East Players at AHSTF

Donation protected
The Tosa East Players have been accepted as participants at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe , the largest arts festival in the world. In the United States, high school theater groups are chosen as part of a rigorous selection process by the AHSTF

Performance groups come from all over the world to participate in the festival, staging theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children's shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events. Last  year's Fringe had 50,459 performances of 3,314 shows in 313 venues throughout the city of Edinburgh over the course of three weeks in the summer.

This fall, Wauwatosa East High School  will perform Shakespeare On Love as part of the school's academic theater program. The student actors will also continue to rehearse and perfect this show throughout the winter, spring and summer. In August 2016, we pack up our director, actors, technical crew and chaperones and head to The Fringe.

The Players will spend two weeks in the United Kingdom, visiting London and Edinburgh. AHSTF provides escorts for the trip, air and ground transportation, lodging, two meals a day, short trips to various locations, technical support for the performance, security for the students, and everything needed to make the trip fun, educational and safe.

The cost for this experience is about $6500 per student. We're hoping to bring 20 students to The Fringe. In a perfect world, the high school would be able to pay for this trip as part of the students' arts education. But as a result of a diminishing arts budget statewide, we are reaching out to our friends, family and community for support. We know that the fundraising goal listed on this page is a lot of money, but it's not even enough to cover the cost for our whole group. We are planning other fundraisers, too, and each student is ultimately responsible for covering their own costs. This page is set up so that you can either donate to the entire group, or to individuals.

The Tosa East Players are honored that they've been chosent to take Shakespeare On Love to Edinburgh. They are looking forward to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and work with performers from all over the world. They will be exposed to new languages, cultures and experiences. Leaving one's home is often the most powerful and transformative experience of a person's life. These high school students are ready to open their hearts and minds, while working hard to achieve a very difficult task.

Any help you can provide toward the goal is very much appreciated. Seriously. Gofundme requires a minimum donation of $5, and we are grateful for every penny.  And if you know of anyone who might be willing to help us out, please feel free to share this page.
