Help Lindsey go to France!

Hello Everyone,

For those who don't know me, I'm Lindsey, and I recently received the wonderful opportunity to travel to France to teach English with a program by the name of TAPIF (to learn more about it you can go here: http://highereducation.frenchculture.org/teach-in-france) for 7 months! I will be leaving towards the end of September!

This opportunity will not only provide me with the fantastic opportunity of pursuing my dream of teaching language and culture in France, something that I've been dreaming about doing for the last 5 years, but it will give me many other opportunities as well! I'll be able to:

1. Gain some professional teaching experience in a different culture. This will help me grow as a teacher, as an adult, and as a professional, giving me the tools to further my professional career.

2. Give me the opportunity to become more culturally aware. Though I've lived in France before, I was studying abroad with other American students. This time around, I'll be working in the country, surrounded by locals and the local culture. I'll be able to gain more perspective on the French culture which will help me to become a better global citizen by being a teacher in the French school system. I will learn about their culture while I teach them about my culture, and being confronted by major cultural differences will help me to become more aware of who I am as a person and how I can become better culturally sensitive and culturally diverse.

3. Give me the opportunity to serve in the local culture. I plan to find a local Church to become a part of and to serve the locals through this Church. I've always had a passion of helping others, especially those whom differ from me. This too, will give me the opportunity to grow as an individual and a global citizen. I think it is highly important to understand the needs of others, especially those in different countries. Once we become more aware of global needs and learn about people from other cultures, we can become more able to  adjust to our ever changing society and can learn how to love and help others no matter their differences, creating unity among cultures.

I am overjoyed to have received this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to it. However, though I've been working very hard (about 50 hours a week at two different jobs), the expenses of this trip are overwhelming, and I'm looking to others to help me to achieve this goal of pursuing my dream and improving myself as an individual, a global citizen, and as a professional.

If you choose to donate, I will be forever grateful towards you for helping me. Every little bit helps, and I'll be just as grateful for small amounts as I will be big amounts.

The money I receive will go towards transportation costs (such as my flight to France, the train ticket to the city I am placed in, and any other expenses associated with travel such as baggage fees, travel insurance fees, etc.), towards putting down a deposit and first month's rent for housing (I am expected to find my own housing in France, which means putting down a deposit and first month's rent. Though the program does pay me a stipend, I will not be getting paid until at the earliest, the end of October. Though I do not yet know how much housing will cost me, I am going to estimate about how much I need for the time being until I have more information), towards upstart costs that I might have including getting a cell phone, starting a bank account,  and food for the first few weeks, and lastly, towards medicine for 7 months. I have a condition called hypothyroidism, which means that my thyroid does not produce enough hormones to help my body regulate itself. This was caused by the radiation I received when I had cancer (I am thankfully in remission and enjoying life), and I have to take medicine to regulate it. Without my medicine, my body slows down. I become very fatigued, less likely to fight off sickness because of lack of energy, and am more likely to become depressed and to gain weight despite my diet. So, I need this medicine, and it will cost quite a bit to get 7 months worth of medicine so that I have it.

So, please consider helping this girl out! If you donate, I will be forever grateful and forever in your debt! You can also follow my blog to receive updates about my trip here: https://sheseeksadventures.wordpress.com/

Again, thank you!
