Tidewater Fencing Club (TFC) was founded in 1972 and continues to be a non-profit, volunteer-run, community fencing club today. Our mission is to introduce people in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia to the Olympic sport of fencing in a fun and safe manner while maintaining a positive and congenial social atmosphere.
Fencing is both an Olympic sport (one of only four to be featured in every modern Olympic games since 1896) and a martial art. It is a competitive sport with nationally-mandated rules about how to fence, the proper equipment, and the field of play, and is also a great source of physical fitness and FUN!
Since its founding TFC has never had a true home of its own, a dedicated fencing facility in which to operate -- until now! Starting in June 2015 the club shall hold practices in a new facility in Chesapeake, VA, where we will be able to offer a full, week-long schedule of various classes, training, and open fencing for beginner, intermediate, and competitive fencers.
The first major step shall be the build-out of the space to turn it into a facility appropriate for fencing. All class fees and membership dues are used to operate and improve the club and its programs for the benefit of the participants, so moving forward with the new facility would be greatly aided by generous donations!
