Thundridge Old Church, a grade II* listed tower from a Norman church in a deeply historic area of Hertfordshire and iconic landmark in a green area of great beauty, is under threat of demolition.
Thundridge Old Church Action Group (TOCAG) are fighting to save the Church for current and future generations, research and share the incredible thousand year history of this place and bring it to life for the benefit of the whole community.
In 2025 TOCAG ran a project funded by a substantial Historic England grant that defined in detail exactly what is needed to preserve, repair and bring the tower back into use.
As part of that we organised access to the tower through a new door, cleared out tonnes of rubble, saved 200 gravestone fragments and erected scaffolding inside
A first step on the journey to save the tower is now to take over management, bring it back into community control, make on-site improvements and start applying for grants - but to take on these responsibilities, TOCAG needs a base of private funding.
Without a change in ownership and the support of the community, it could be lost forever and the door opened to development within the Rib Valley.
