Coachella. Glastonbury. South by South West. When you think of festivals, are those the first ones that come to mind? Every year, hundreds, thousands and millions of people trek to festivals in the United States and Europe to take in live performances from their favorite artists and discover new bands while blogs and fashion sites comb the festivals for the best street style candidates.
The Fest Guru's is a new in development television show that aims to encourage more Africans to attend festivals in their countries and region. Follow hosts Lorraine and Mazuba armed with their Camera crew/Directors/Producers Zash and Gwi as they travel throughout Africa spotlighting cultural festivals in an effort to preserve the rich culture of Africa and create a festival culture among Africans. They will help festival attendees save money by sharing travel, planning and accommodation tips.
When it comes to Africa, there are plenty of festivals to attend from HIFA in Zimbabwe to Oppikoppi in South Africa, Kigali Up in Rwanda, Festival In the Desert in Mali and so many more. Unlike the West where one whose interested in attending a festival can look up all the information they need to make the trip online, Africa lags behind. In addition, Inter-Africa travel is expensive and may be one factor why not many Africans attend festivals in their neighboring countries.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
The first episode of "˜The Fest Guru's' was shot in Harare, Zimbabwe at the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA) in late April- early May and was self funded ie the Fest Guru's team paid for their own entrance tickets, bus tickets, accommodation and transport. As we plan to explore more festivals to shoot more episodes, we require funding .The City of Stars in Lilongwe, Malawi is our next step on our fest route. We appreciate any donations big or small and we promise that your funds will be used wisely.
WHAT YOUR FUNDS WILL DO
Your funding will cover our travel and accommodation costs to Lilongwe, Malawi for the Lake of Stars on September 27 and 28.
