The Tree Cycle

Donation protected
The Tree Cycle is a large form handmade sculpture, made from recycled bicycle parts, created and installed by Joshua Schroeder.  It is currently located near the old fire station at the South end of Silver Lake park in Rochester, MN.  At over 10 feet tall the tree cycle is an impressive sculpture that is in a perfect postion to be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.
The Tree Cycle was erected in the Summer of 2016 as a submission in the Art4 Trails initiative.  The initiative is set up for local artists to create sculptures that will add character and interst along the bicycle trails in Rochester.  The program is set up for private parties to buy the sculptures from the artists and move them to a private location or donate them to the City to allow them to remain in their existing location for years to come.  This fundraising event will allow members of our community to raise the money neccessary to purchase this amazing sculpture from the artist so it can be donated to the city of Rochester.  If this money is not raised the City will force the artist to remove this sculpture at his own expense.  We cannot allow this sculpture to be removed.  Josh Schroeder is a local artist who was born and raised here in Rochester.  He is the founder and owner of Pedal Metal Jewelery, where as the only artist Josh creates jewelery from 100% Recycled Bicycle parts.  The Tree Cycle is the largest piece of art ever created  by Josh, with over $2000 in materials and 125 man hours into the installation.  Josh has other art works on display in many local bars and restaraunts, but the Tree Cycle is truely unique and impressive and has the character that requires our efforts to ensure that it remains in place for everyone to enjoy.

I have met with Mike Nigbur from the City Park and Recreation department and have confirmed with him that if we are able to raise the funds required to purchase this incredible sculpture and donate it to the City of Rochester, we can make sure that as a part of the donation the City will agree to keep this sculpture as a part of its plans going forward.
The City of Rochester is growing and expanding and while the commercial developments and growth of businesses are very important for our city, it is also very important to continue to focus on the arts and creativity of our residents that have made Rochester what it is.  When such an amazing piece of creative expression is put together, we cannot allow this to go to waste.

Thank you for reading the story of the Tree Cycle and please feel free to share it.  We hope that you are able to help fund the purchase of the Tree Cycle with a donation to the cause.  I know there are a million things to spend money on during the holiday season and into the new year, but an investment into the community we live in and love is the best way to contribute to the betterment for all of us.
