Terpsicorps Studio Capital Campaign

Tax deductible
We need your help to create something big and exciting!  Heather Maloy, Artistic Director and I, a proud member of the Board of Directors for Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance,  want to share a new bold Capital Studio Campaign with you.

This past year Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance sadly lost our River Arts District studio due to circumstances beyond our control  and we now have an opportunity to secure  a fabulous new permanent space. We have created a capital campaign to raise 40, 000 for a new company home studio at the Old Spurs building on Patton Avenue. We are a nonprofit 501 (c)3 organization  all donations are tax exempt to the fullest extent of the law.

Immediately we will need to build out the space, which include three studios, dressing rooms and a lounge/art gallery, from the ground up: sprung floors, mirrors, sound systems and administrative costs to get the dance space ready for use. With this new space we will be able to actually expand  the Terpsicorps mission to include Academy at Terpsicorps, a Pre Professional Childrens dance school. We are asking the community to help us continue to bring our unique performances that they have loved over the years and be part of this new exciting expansion.

History of Terpsicorps
As of June, 2003, Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance became North Carolina's summertime professional contemporary ballet company. Terpsicorps hires in critically acclaimed dancers from such well respected dance companies as Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, BalletMet, Kansas City Ballet, and Atlanta Ballet. Most dance companies lay off their dancers in the summertime when theater going tends to taper off. This has given the company the opportunity to hire first rate principal dancers for a short period of time and create innovative, theatrical shows.

Academy at Terpsicorps
The Academy at Terpsicorps seeks to provide the world class dance training & education, consistent with the stylistic requirements of Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance Company. Dancers will be provided with a rich knowledge of classical technique and the ability to adapt to all styles and techniques of dance.

The Academy at Terpsicorps will serve approximately 100 to 150 students and encompass a pre-professional division of dancers ages 12-18, and a dance education division of dancers ages 3 and up. Classes include classical ballet technique, pointe, partnering, men's class, jazz technique, modern technique, contemporary, hip hop, yoga and Pilates. Pre-professional students will have the opportunity to train with the Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance Company during the summer months. As well, The Academy at Terpsicorps will provide monthly master classes with premier choreographers to aid in building the dancer's repertoire, performance experience, and training.

Press
A summer season from June to mid-August gives Terpsicorps the chance to introduce it’s innovative style of dance to the citizens of Asheville . Asheville’s Citizen-Times called Terpsicorps “dance at its best... high budget shows have nothing on the level of stimulus and reward offered by Terpsicorps.” The Winston-Salem Journal says, "So many diverse and wonderful things happened during "The Recession Blues and Other Works," last night's presentation by the Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance, that I'm hard pressed to mention them all in one review. But the bottom line is clear: Terpsicorps... deserves to return here again and again."
