Here we are once again.
Back on November 9, 2013, our 8 month old baby boy Mac was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We lived at Children's Hospital Colorado, where Mac completed 4 cycles of chemotherapy over the course of 4 months.
Miraculously, Mac responded great to the chemotherapy and went into remission. He was blessed with incredible nurses and doctors who took great care of all of us. The prayers and support of Team Mac got us through. In March 2014 we left the hospital for Mac to live a normal healthy life.

Now Mac is 3 years old. He loves cars, the color pink and jumping on the trampoline. He has been through and accomplished so much. Last year, he became the most proud and loving big brother to his "baby Bo".
Here they are enjoying Disneyland just a few short weeks ago. We never would have imagined what would be coming when we snapped this picture of Mac and Bo.
With the heaviest hearts, we are calling on Team Mac again.
In early May, while visiting family in Kansas, Mac developed symptoms of extreme lethargy, tiredness, and vomiting. We took him to an ER where blood tests were performed along with a lumbar puncture for possible menengitis. With no clear diagnosis they summed it all up as "dehydration" and then transferred him by ambulance to a larger hospital 90 miles away, where he stayed for 2 days receiving fluids. They diagnosed it as a virus and released him on Tuesday. By Thursday, he was worse, much worse. We were terrified. We got to the nearest hospital that we knew could best serve Mac: Children's Hospital in Denver, CO.
When we arrived at Children's they suggested an MRI but weren't sure they would even find something. As we sat in the waiting room to go see Mac, we were approached by a doctor identifying himself with oncology. He asked for us to go to a private room where he told us that the MRI was showing 2 brain tumors. Brain tumors? What's going on? We were heartbroken.
The next day he had brain surgery to biopsy one of the tumors and to place an external drain because the masses are preventing proper flow of his spinal fluid. They were suspecting that the masses were leukemia considering his AML history.
The surgery went well but the results weren't what we were expecting. This is not leukemia and isn't related to his AML. After months of waiting we now know that the larger tumor is a glioma. Another strange part of this is that the glioma has properties of both a high-grade and a low-grade tumor. This is unchartered territory for us and the doctors. They said they wish they could tell us of other cases like this but they can't think of any. The words they are using are rare and unusual.
Now Mac has had 3 brain surgeries. They were able to remove all of the smaller tumor and most of the larger one. Mac couldn't walk for a few weeks after sugery and he has some weakness on his left side. He is working hard to get better and continues to improve. His eyes don't track together but at this point we just have to wait and see what they do.
Mac started chemotherapy on Tuesday June 28th. He gets very upset and anxious when we go to the hospital. The one chemo he stared on Tuesday he will do for the next year. He will start another one next week and I'm not sure what the frequency or duration of that will be.
How You Can Help Mac
It' s really difficult to believe that our sweet 3 year old boy is fighting cancer for a second time. We unfortuatley know how financially stressful it is to go through this. This GoFundMe campaign is being created to raise the funds we are going to need so that Mac receives the medical care he needs. Work and home are in southern Utah but for the foreseeable future, Mac's battle will necessitate that we be with him here at Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Any contribution you can make will help Mac receive the treatment he needs as we support him and our family, over 600 miles from home.
