I'm State Representative Antonio Parkinson. Let me first thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. It is your thoughtfullness and support that allows me to achieve the successes that have been made in the five years that I've been elected.

Since elected, I have been blessed to pass meaningful and beneficial laws for our state. I ran on the platform to fight for education, safe communities and increased economic development. I have passed and continue to work on legislation in all of the promised areas. For instance, in my freshman year, I passed Kimbelee's Law - a law that makes those convicted of aggravated rape serve 100% of their time. I also made it unlawful for unlicensed scratchers (tattoo artist) to be in possession of tattooing paraphanalia. These are the individuals responsible for tattooing under age children. That year I was named Legislator of the Year by the Memphis Area Association of Governments. The next session I passed The Healthy Workplace Act, a bill that would reduce bullying in the workplace acroos the state of Tennessee. This was the first law of its kind in the country. I also passed legeislation that created apprenticeships in the cosmetology industry to get our stylists to work faster and allow them to recieve real world experience before they graduate from cosmetology school. This year I passed the Neighborhood Protection Act. NPA is another first for the state of Tennessess as there is no other law like the NPA in the country. NPA allows neighborhood agencies to request a restraining order against repeat criminals that target the agencies neighborhood. This is landmark legislation! There are many more laws that I've sponsored or co-sponsored with colleagues.
My community activity resume' is even longer than that of my legislative resume'. I have been responsible for organizing job, college and large health fairs and town hall style meeteings to get information out. I host annual events such as the Block Party and Picnic for Peace and the Fresh Starts Community Baby Shower to name a few. these events are meaningful and impactful for the citizens that they serve.
But more than any of the above, I believe in helping my fellow man. If you know my story, you will know my heart. i always tell my friends and supporters..."I hadn't always been in this suit." There were times...yes times...when I was homeless. I don't say that to you for pity...but for inspiration!
