BUDGET COST
Words from Jon Meyer the videographer

OK so first and foremost I need some essential gear. Currently I'm only able to use about 10% of what I shoot because of poor sound so I need a new mic. (I'm using the one built in to the camera right now). I shoot tons of footage so I'll need a couple new hard drives to store it all. I can't shoot after dark hardly at all because I don't have a good low light lens. Without a budget I can't get any footage outside of Portland because of travel costs. I need gas, food, etc. I'm willing to sleep on the floor, no need for hotels or anything extra to be comfortable. Right now I roll on Talilo an average of four days a month because I have to take on other freelance filmmaking gigs to make my bills and survive, I would like to triple that at least. I'm failing big time on official business of legalities, release forms etc. We've already run into problems in that department. It's too much for me to manage all aspects myself especially the parts I'm not skilled at. I would like to bring on someone part time to assist me with this stuff. They don't need to be paid top dollar but they do need to be compensated somehow. In order to tell a story that feels complete I need to follow Talilo for at least a year, maybe longer. Although I will cut corners whenever possible, I need a budget to sustain the project or the end result will greatly suffer. Most feature docs, even the lowest you will find have budgets of a lot more than 5,000. That number represents a minimum it will take to complete this to a standard that will be marketable. I have a lot of experience indie filmmaking and feel I am able to defy expectations and make a film for 5K that looks like it had a much much larger budget. There's a lot more things I am not mentioning because the hurdle has not presented itself yet, that's the nature of a doc compared to a fictional story.
