Hello! 
My name is Jessica and I am a blogger (http://jessj.wordpress.com) and PhD candidate. For years I have been dedicated to being open and honest about my life on my blog which included writing about depression, relationship break ups, moving cross country, surviving sexual assault, and learning to love myself. Much of what I write about has afforded me the opportunity to connect with people around the world who were going through similar trials or knew someone who was. Rarely does a day go by when I do not get an email, tweet, text, or message about how something I wrote has touched someone and helped them to process their own emotions differently. 

I want to continue this work through my dissertation by working with fat women to help form community and reduce the shame associated with being a woman of a particular size and empower them (us) to step into ourselves, our power, and be leaders in our various communities.  I believe that everyone has something to offer in this world and never should someone feel they cannot or should not have the ability to have a say in our global community. YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Our voices matter. 

Further, I want to continue the work of empowering women via consulting through my Life|Style website. I believe that our style is the message we send to the world about who we are. If we do not set intention around that message, we can be perceived and treated in a way that does not align with how we want to be taken up. So my work will be centered around helping my clients become clear about who they are and alleviate dissonance between our style and self. I want to help women understand that they have value, are worthy of love, joy, and connection and to dress in a way that reflects that knowing. 

All of this comes at a cost that I simply cannot cover given my limited income as a graduate student. I am asking for help funding both my research as well as the costs associated with starting up my website for my consulting work. 

Asking for help has been a tremendously difficult decision to come to, but ultimately I have to believe in my own worthiness and ability to do this work. I also have to believe that others see my potential and are willing to support me in getting started.
