Going, Going, Ghana!

Thank you for taking the time to read about my upcoming adventures. I have been blessed with several opportunities over the next year and I need your help.
My name is Kyla Schnell. I'm a freshman at St. Michael - Albertville High School in Minnesota. I love music; I've been singing since I could talk and I've been performing in local theatre productions for several years. You could say it's one of the most important aspects of my life. In addition to music I am very involved with my church and various youth group activities. I am a strong, dedicated student and look forward to expanding my education with both experiences and schooling.
In May 2015, I will be travelling to the village of Kuigba in Ghana, Africa. We will be helping to build a library and teaching in the village school. As part of the curriculum, I will be leading a music class. I'll be teaching the 90 or so students the basics of playing the musical recorder. I've been in contact with our local elementary schools, and they have kindly agreed to hold a recorder drive so each student in the village can have one to keep. I am excited to share my love of music with these students.
I've never been out of the country. We'll be able to experience the traditions, rituals, foods, and religion of the tribe, as well as do a bit of sightseeing. This will be a truly life-changing trip, and I couldn't be more excited.
In addition, in spring of 2016 I will be going with my school choir to Florida, where we will sing at Disneyworld. I am excited for the opportunity to travel and perform with my peers.
I know I have big goals, but even just spreading the word about them can make them a reality. I am working to set up an Etsy shop and hope to fill it with my hand-knit items. However, I do not expect it to launch until later this summer once I finish school for the year and return from Ghana, Thus, this page was created.
