Project Carroll's goal is to provide winter feral cat shelters. I was the person that belonged to the much loved cat Carroll who recently left this world. Carroll was, is-life changing. I found Carroll in the middle of the street on a bitter cold winter day. The decision to take him home caused me to lose my then job which I was on my way to. I subsequently became a full time animal woman composing many hats of volunteering & I work as full time pet sitter.
Via this path I met my friend Tina Trachtenburg, motherpigeon.com Tina has constructed winter shelters for feral cats. It will be her design I'm using. Each shelter costs about $25 to make.
Not too long ago one of my favorite pet sitting parents, Charlotte Dion, gave me $25 as a gift to do with as I please towards helping animals. I've been sitting on it & I can think of no better time to put it to use.
The plan here is whatever $ is raised this month will go to making that many shelters it allows. $ raising will run through September. Construction will occur in October. This way the shelters will be able to roll out in November. It will be 1st come 1st serve for those who want. $1250 would make 50 shelters.
Not every cat is as lucky to get scooped up on a cold winter day. A little info on feral cats and the care of them: Cats born, grown up on the streets, odds are they are feral. Feral is a domesticated animal going wild. Within just the beginning of their lifespan this occurs. For the most part adopting these cats is not realistic. So the goal becomes to TNR them. Trap-Neuter-Return. The cats now fixed are cared for to the best of the caretaker's ability for the rest of their lives. This includes food, water, shelter.
Had I not found Carroll at such a young age he would have grown up feral, had he even made it through that winter. I'm going to celebrate Carroll's life & turn this sadness into a positive.
